In her 2013 Labor Day message (above), Barbara Shailor, the State Department’s Special Representative for International Labor Affairs says:

“Promotion of these core worker rights, including freedom of association, the right to organize and belong to unions, and bargain collectively, freedom from discrimination, and the elimination of forced labor and the worst forms of child labor, are key components of our labor diplomacy. “
